12 Months to a Healthier You Challenge, Week 52

A healthier You for 2014

This is the last update in the 12 Months to a Healthier You Challenge. Did you join in on some of the challenges? I can’t believe how fast this past year went by. It seems like I was just starting this challenge a few weeks ago.

I’ve made some good progress towards establishing some good healthy habits along the way. I hope you did too. Here’s what I worked on last week and my progress too.

My Goal for December’s Focus Area

Saying no to good things is hard, but must be done to have time for the great things.

I used to have a really hard time saying no to things. I thought people wouldn’t like me, if I said no. People would be offended, if I said no. And sometimes both of those things happen. But when I spend time doing things that are really not that important. Then I may not have time for the things I love.

For this month, I’m going to work on simplifying my days and saying no to things that just aren’t that important to my family and myself. During the holiday season there is just so many things to do. By keeping my focus on what is most important each week and saying no to the things that just don’t fit, I’m hoping to have a nice and relaxed December.

How did you do with this challenge?

My Progress for this week

This past week I was sick. I hate being sick, but being sick right before Christmas is the worst for me. But I did say no to trying to do everything I usually do and just took time to rest, when I felt really tired. I think that helped me to fight off the sickness and get me better by Christmas.

I did make our Christmas dinner. I took the easy road on the rolls, opting to purchase them instead of making them from scratch. I also made ahead our two side dishes of yam and potatoes. Making getting dinner done on Christmas as easy as heating up everything and sitting down to eat.

We did miss seeing Christmas lights this year, which is a little disappointing but something has to give when everyone is sick. We might be able to get out and see a few before New Years, who knows. If we do great, if not it will be all right. The kids haven’t even seem to miss it at all.

I’m so glad that this month was the month of just saying no. I had to say no to a few things I really enjoy doing, but when sickness hits it’s better to rest and do what you can, than try to push through. I hope you had the opportunity to say no to a few things and that it helped your December a little more enjoyable.

How did you do on making some healthy changes this year? Which ones will you continue in the new year?

  1. I’m so sorry that you didn’t get to see some Christmas lights this year…that’s always so much fun! Hopefully now that you are all feeling better, you can do something fun together.

Our Christmas dinner was a simple baked ham, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. I also purchased rolls instead of making them myself, so the hardest part was just peeling and mashing the potatoes. It tasted very good and everyone was happy.
