Moist Chocolate Bundt Cake with Caramel Frosting

In our family each person gets to request what we have for dinner and what dessert they want served at their birthday. I always let them pick and sometimes it is pie, sometimes it is crisp, and sometimes it is homemade ice cream brownie sundaes. But for my son’s birthday he picked chocolate cake.

Since he didn’t have a particular recipe I make in mind I set out to find a really good one. My search lead me to Food.com and if you have never visited this site  you have to set aside some time to explore. I think you could find just about any kind of recipe you need there.

So my searching lead me to this cake recipe. I was drawn in by this recipe from its description. The name is One-Bowl Dark Chocolate Bundt Cake. Now I see the words one bowl I think easy clean up and quick to make. Then after reading the description which included words like, dependable, never-fail, moist and just dump everything in one large bowl. What more could a girl ask for in a cake recipe? Well I would ask that it also be dairy free for my family and guess what, it is!

After looking at the pictures of this cake and drooling on my computer. I knew this is a recipe I had to try. But what’s  cake without frosting? If you are going to eat cake might as well go all the way and add the frosting too. Am I right?

Just then I remembered a recipe I have made a few times for chocolate cupcakes with caramel frosting. I know caramel frosting? But if you haven’t ever tried chocolate cake with caramel frosting you really have to give it a try. So with just a few more keystrokes on my computer and bingo I scored a caramel frosting recipe.

This recipe in the description said it came from her Mennonite grandmother and it was her grandmother’s all time favorite. Well I don’t know about you but my great grandma was an awesome cook so I thought how could I go wrong with a recipe like that?

Both of these recipes held true to their descriptions. The cake was the most moist cake I think I have ever made and the combination with that oh so yummy caramel frosting. Just can’t be beat. Everyone at the party just loved it.

Both of these recipes are very easy to follow and make. So even if you are not a from scratch type of person, I think you will find both recipes to be quite easy. So don’t be afraid to branch out from the box and tub and give these two recipes a try. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

One Bowl Dark Chocolate Bundt Cake– for this recipe I just followed the recipe as written, I used water instead of the option of orange juice. Be sure to grease and cocoa powder your bundt pan. I use cocoa powder instead of flour so I don’t have white from the flour showing on the cake.

Caramel Cake Frosting– For this recipe since we eat dairy free around here I just substituted the milk with soy milk and it turned out great.

Here’s some eye candy for you. Make sure not to drool on your keyboard. 🙂
